OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Smitha is originally from Columbia, Maryland and recently moved to Apex, North Carolina. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology and psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and earned her Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from Towson University, Maryland in 2024.
During her undergraduate career, Smitha was involved in research to study the social-emotional development of young children. During her time at Towson University, Smitha gained valuable experience working with adults with autism, and developed a sensory awareness and advocacy program to help adults navigate the workplace, as a part of her doctoral capstone project. Smitha also provided therapy to adults and children with varying diagnoses such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, concussion-related vision disorders, sensory processing disorders, autism, ADHD, and other physical disabilities.
Smitha believes in providing “neuro-affirming” care to adults and children on the autism spectrum which led her to gain certification in the Learn Play and Thrive Neuro-affirming Approach to Autism.
Smitha’s passions outside of work include Bollywood dance, going on hikes with her husband, trying new restaurants, and reading.
